Inaugurated in May 2007, The Pearl Barlow Center for Memory Evaluation and Treatement is the clinical and diagnostic care unit of the renowned Silberstein Institute at NYU Medical Center. We treat memory impairments caused by neurological, psychological and physical ailments, as well as memory issues resulting from medication side effects, anxiety, depression and the effects of normal aging, including illnesses such as Alzheimer’s disease. Our patients benefit from a comprehensive and well-integrated clinical care experience and have access to the most advanced research emanating from the Silberstein Institute, for early diagnosis and treatment of cognitive disorders. The Silberstein Institute is devoted to the understanding, cure and prevention of aging-related cognitive decline through translational research and evidence-based geriatric care. |

Since the 1970s, the scientific community has relied on NYU investigators to conduct progressive research on Alzheimer’s and other memory impairments. Research "firsts" achieved by NYU investigators have been recognized globally. With the recent opening of the Barlow Center, this research is being applied clinically resulting in great strides in the treatment and prevention of dementia. The Center is made possible through the generosity of the late Pearl Barlow. In addition to recieving state-of-the-art diagnostic evaluation and approved treatments, patients are afforded the opportunity to participate in clinical trials which evaluate the newest generation of medications. Also, given the Silberstein Institute’s compassionate view towards supporting families and caregivers, patients are able to take advantage of the Institute’s experience with its unique, nationally recognized research program focusing on caregiver stress. Access for patients to this array of treatment modalities, ground-breaking research and a multi-disciplinary medical team distinguishes the Barlow Center as one of the most comprehensive centers for memory and treatment evaluation in the country. As the U.S. population ages and a greater need is created for treatments, preventions and cures of memory disorders, more institutions will follow the model of the Barlow Center, bringing to life a synergy between research and interdisciplinary clinical care in order to triumph over Alzheimer’s and other memory disorders stemming from multiple origins. |
