New York, NY – November 7, 2006 – To coincide with World AIDS Day at New York University School of Medicine, the Masters Scholars Program and the NYU chapter of Physicians for Human Rights will be presenting Face-to-Face: An Intimate Response to AIDS in Malawi from Sunday, November 26th to Tuesday, December 5, 2006 in the Farkas Breezeway at NYU School of Medicine at 550 First Avenue. Admission is free and open to the public.
Face-to-Face is a multi-faceted exhibition featuring photographic work by Ken Wong (www.facetofaceaids.org). At the center of the exhibition is the AIDS PhotoMosaic, three giant 12’ x 12’ panels of 48 black-and-white portraits of men, women, and children living with HIV/AIDS in Malawi. The portraits capture the full range of emotions experienced by those affected by HIV/AIDS and reflect the immense scale of this pandemic that has already claimed tens of millions of lives worldwide and continues to affect over 40 million people currently living with HIV. The exhibition also includes educational panels and multimedia kiosks that present photographs, narratives and videos of individuals living with or affected by AIDS.
A celebration of this exhibit opening will take place on the night of December 1, 2006 at BLVD, 199 Bowery at Spring Street, beginning at 9 PM. Admission is $10. Additionally, a silent auction will be held for limited prints of photography from Face-to-Face AIDS. All proceeds of both the celebration and the silent auction will go to Paradiso Home-Based Care in Lilongwe and the East Harlem HIV Care Network.
Previously, Face-to-Face has been on exhibition at Princeton and Harvard Universities, the Michener Art Museum, and the United Nations Headquarters in New York City.
