NYU CANCER INSTITUTE GALA RAISES $ 2.1 MILLION AT THE
MANDARIN HOTEL HIGHLIGHTING THE MARC JACOBS "PROTECT THE SKIN YOU’RE IN" T-SHIRT CAMPAIGN
NEW YORK, NY – October 12, 2007 – The 2007 NYU Cancer Institute Gala raised $2.1 million in honor of Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy for their longstanding commitment to fighting cancer and, in particular, for their generous support to NYU’s Melanoma Research Program. Setting new standards in the surgical treatment of breast cancer and melanoma, long-time physician, mentor, and patient advocate Matthew N. Harris, M.D., was also honored for his roles as innovative leader and revered “statesman.”
The 2007 Gala celebrated the Cancer Institute’s many achievements in the areas of patient care, research, education, and prevention. Raising critical funds for the Cancer Institute’s growth and expansion is essential for unlocking the potential of our translational research programs. These programs will also help accelerate the development of innovative treatment methods, evaluate new forms of immunotherapy, expand access to clinical trials, and explore cancer’s impact and its patterns within various communities and minority populations.
The “Protect The Skin You’re In” Campaign began last year when celebrities were photographed in the nude for T-shirts to be sold in order to benefit melanoma research. This year’s models Eva Mendes, Helena Christensen, Heidi Klum, Alison Lohman, among others, join for a re-issue of these shirts in order to benefit cancer research.
For more information about melanoma and other cancers go to www.nyuci.org.
T-shirts will be sold nationwide exclusively through Marc Jacobs www.marcjacobs.com.
