NYU Surgeons Inspires Large Quilt Donation to Pediatric Patients

(L-R) Linda Arye, Raisa Puhacz, Dr. Roy Nuzzo, and Dr. Thomas Errico admire a quilt together

New York, NY, June 24 2004 - Stephanie Hnatiw, a resident of Macungie, PA, and Linda Arye, President of Quilts for Kids presented 70 quilts to the pediatric patients at NYU Medical Center in honor of Dr. Thomas Errico, Associate Professor of Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery and Dr. Roy Nuzzo, Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery yesterday at the Pediatric Acute Care Unit at NYU Medical Center.

All the quilts were donated by Quilts for Kids and were made of discontinued designer fabrics and quilted by volunteers from across the US and Canada. Ms. Hnatiw presented the quilts in an expression of gratitude to Drs. Errico and Nuzzo for the compassionate and expert surgical care they provided to her daughter, Raisa Puhacz, 18, who was treated at NYU Medical Center for scoliosis. Ms. Hnatiw added that Raisa is developmentally disabled and thus was unable to describe how she was feeling to her doctors which made providing care to her very challenging. "They were not typical doctors that rushed their patients, rather they were comforting, patient, and always answered all of my questions," said Ms. Hnatiw.
