Norman Eig named Chairman of Board of Directors of NYU Cancer Institute

NEW YORK, February 11, 2005 -- Norman Eig, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lazard Asset Management, a subsidiary of Lazard Freres, the investment banking firm, has been named Chairman of NYU Cancer Institute’s Board of Directors.

Mr. Eig, a leading financial executive for more than three decades, was formerly vice chairman and senior managing director of asset management at Lazard Freres. A graduate of Ohio State University, Mr. Eig earned his MBA from Columbia University Graduate School of Business, on whose board of overseers he now serves. He is also a director of the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation.

Mr. Eig will join Dr. Steven Burakoff, Director of the Cancer Institute, in leading the board in its advocacy and fundraising efforts. They will work together to expand the board’s membership, identify new sources of funding, and serve as counsel to the institute’s medical leadership.

As you know, the Cancer Institute has made tremendous progress recently, marked by the opening this past July of the new NYU Clinical Cancer Center. In addition, the institute has already begun to recruit world-class research scientists, some of whom will be housed in the new Joan and Joel Smilow Research Center, scheduled to open in 2006.
