Alfred T. Culliford, M.D. is a Professor of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at NYU School of Medicine and Medical Center. An attending and consultant surgeon at Bellevue Hospital Center and the Manhattan Veterans Administration Medical Center, Dr. Culliford has one of the lowest mortality rates for coronary artery bypass surgery in New York State. He also has extensive experience with reoperations and surgical treatment and management of elderly patients with both valvular and coronary artery disease.
In addition to these specialties, Dr. Culliford has authored and co-authored dozens of scientific journal articles and textbook chapters on other subjects including stroke, thoracic trauma, carotid and coronary revascularization and valvular surgery. His work has been published in prestigious peer-reviewed publications such as the Annals of Vascular Surgery, the American Heart Journal, the Annals of Thoracic Surgery and Circulation and in widely referenced texts such as Principles of Surgery. He has also co-authored a book on thoracic surgery.
Dr. Culliford earned his M.D. degree with honors from the New York Medical College, did an internship at the Hospital of the University of Cincinnati and completed his residency in general surgery at NYU Medical Center.
