This year will be a special tribute to Dr. Al Kopf
and his enormous contribution to our department. In addition
to our regular line-up, there will be guest speakers coming
from all over the world to honor Dr. Kopf in Friday's Cutaneous
Oncology session. There will be a Wine & Cheese
Reception on Friday at 5pm which all are welcome to attend.
There is no registration fee for dermatology residents or
for NYU Dermatology Faculty members. Please call Craig
Burke to register (263-5245) to be sure we will have enough
course handouts.
The annual
departmental photograph will be held in the Tisch Courtyard
on Thursday, May 22nd at 12:30pm.
The Department of Dermatology/AAD Annual Free Skin Cancer
Screening was held on Thursday, May 8. We screened
a record 251 patients from 1:30 - 5:00 PM. We
detected many lesions suspicious for skin cancer including
21 Basal Cell Carcinomas, 13 Squamous Cell Carcinomas,
and 1 Melanoma, which appeared to be of the aggressive
Nodular subtype. Many thanks to Interim Clinic Manager
April Clark and the staff of the Skin & Cancer Unit
for making this one of the smoothest running Skin Cancer Screenings
in recent memory. Their professionalism and hard work, combined
with the tireless efforts of many of our residents including
Chicky Dadlani, Hillary Johnson, Jennifer Stein, Peter
Chien, Arnold Lee, Rachel Farley-Loftus, Molly Yancovitz,
Naheed Abbasi, Robert Anolik and voluntary faculty member
Deidre Connelly led to many compliments from patients
during their exit interviews with Jo-Ann Latkowski, Roopal
Kundu and David Polsky. Also, thanks to the NYU Cancer
Institute for helping with patient registration and publicity.
The
Husik Prize:
The Husik
Prize will be awarded at our annual dinner on Tuesday,
June 10th, 2008. (Remember to save the date) The prize
originates from a research fund established for Dr. Maurice
Husik, who was a faculty member in the Department from 1934
to 1966. The fund provides a $1,000 prize to the resident
or fellow producing the best paper on a dermatologic subject.
The paper does not have to have been published. The deadline
for the Husik prize submission is May 19th, 2008. Dr. Soter
is the Chair of the Husik Prize Committee.
