When submitting an application to any branch of the Public Health Service, or other funding agency, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee approval date will be required. This is referred to as "certification of IACUC approval." This is explained in more detail under the heading "Certification of IACUC Approval to Funding Agencies".
Investigators may prepare a protocol as a pilot study prior to a grant submission, or to cover the animal research portion of a specific grant application, or as a stand-alone study to be funded by departmental funds available to the investigator. Regardless of the origin of the protocol, each separate and distinct study must be submitted for approval by IACUC. Each study receives its own protocol number, and has a specific date of approval and period of performance. The period of performance is always twelve (12) months from the date of approval by IACUC.
When submitting protocols for consideration by the IACUC, one
original and three copies of the protocol must be submitted. An
electronic copy of the protocol can be submitted to iacuc@popmail.med.nyu.edu.
If a protocol is referred for full review, the IACUC will request
that
the investigator
supply 18 additional copies for distribution to the members of
the
Committee. Investigators should not submit 18 copies until they
are asked to do so by the IACUC Coordinator.
