Mentoring

Beginning in the second year, each resident is encouraged to develop an area of interest under the mentorship of an assigned faculty physician. The residents have the opportunity to gain expertise in fields such as EMS, ultrasound, pediatrics, international medicine, medical student education, and administration.

Administration

Management and administrative skills are taught in formal didactic lectures and during clinical shifts. These responsibilities are incorporated in the daily workflow of senior residents. In addition, residents are encouraged to attend and become active in quality improvement and othe inter-disciplinary administrative meetings.

Research

An understanding of statistics and research methodologies is achieved through Journal Club, research lectures, and monthly intra-departmental research meetings. Clinical research opportunities are available at Bellevue, Tisch, and through the NYC Poison Center.

Residents are required to complete one scholarly project during their training. This may include clinical or basic research, a writing project, a teaching curriculum, a community based-initiative or other sustainable project. They are encouraged to present this work at a national or regional scientific meeting.
