NYU Medical Center lost a friend with the sudden passing of Allen A. Goldring. Life Trustee of NYU Medical Center and relative of Roberta Goldring, MD, Professor of Medicine, Mr. Goldring had established an endowed professorship in honor of his cousin, the late William Goldring, M.D., a renowned hypertension researcher, alumnus and faculty member at our School of Medicine.
Allen Goldring was an enormously successful businessman, building a multinational corporation distributing automobiles and other vehicles to overseas military personnel. He was a remarkable philanthropist, supporting not only our Medical Center, but also Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Ballet and the New Museum, to name just a few organizations benefiting from his largesse.
At his memorial service, his family and close friends remembered him as an extraordinarily ethical man and one who was enormously devoted to his family. Our thoughts are with his wife Lola, children Laurie, Jamie and David, the seven Goldring grandchildren and his many close friends and relatives.
