Overview

The Division of General Internal Medicine is the NYU Department of Medicine's newest division. Launched early in 2004 under the leadership of Dr. Marc N. Gourevitch, the Division serves as the academic home to general internists on the faculty of the NYU School of Medicine.

The Division's core mission is to optimize the health outcomes of individuals and populations served by urban healthcare delivery systems through innovative research and excellence in physician training and care delivery.

Four sections of the Division are homes to specific domains of clinical, training and research:

General internists in private practice in and around NYU Medical Center are also members of the Division faculty.

The Division of General Internal Medicine offers a range of training at the post-graduate level, including Fellowships in:

Division of General Internal Medicine faculty are engaged in a wide-ranging program of extramurally funded research in core issues affecting the health of urban populations, including immigrant health, substance abuse, chronic disease prevention and management, medical informatics, and evidence-based strategies for training future physicians to address these issues effectively themselves.
