Fellowship Training Program in the Division of Hematology

The Hematology Fellowship Program is an ACGME-accredited three-year combined training program with the Division of Oncology leading to board certi?cation in hematology and medical oncology. For promising research candidates, an additional fourth year of laboratory training may be provided.

Six fellows are accepted per year. They begin their ?rst year of training in Clinical Hematology, then proceed to a second year in Clinical Oncology, followed by one to two years of research training in a laboratory suitable to their skills and interests.

The division provides outstanding training for clinical hematologists and physician-scientists, and is partially funded by an NIH National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Training Grant that has been in existence for over 38 years.

Hematology fellows rotate through all three major NYU teaching hospitals (Tisch, Bellevue, and the VA Medical Center New York), serving as consults at each one.

A dedicated fellow is also assigned to the Hematology/ Oncology Units at both Tisch and Bellevue hospitals throughout the year. Additional rotations are the Bone Marrow Transplant Service, Special Coagulation Laboratory, Blood Banking, and Hematopathology.

A continuity clinic of one-half day per week is required throughout the fellowship period.
