The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine provides a vast array of clinical services.
Bellevue Hospital Center
At Bellevue Hospital Center these services include:
- administrative supervision under Dr. Jeffrey Gold of Bellevue's new 10th-?oor Intensive Care Units, which encompass the Medical Intensive Care Unit, the Surgical Intensive Care Unit, the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit, and the Cardiac Care Unit
- a Pulmonary Consult Service, under the supervision of Dr. Timothy Harkin
- Bellevue's historic Chest Service, which cares for patients with tuberculosis, lung cancer, COPD, asthma, and interstitial ?brosis
- a state-of-the-art Pulmonary Function Laboratory, under the directorship of Dr. Roberta Goldring
- a four-bed Sleep Laboratory, under the directorship of Dr. David Rapoport
- a Chest Clinic, under the supervision of Dr. Rany Condos, providing 6,000 visits per year
- a separate Asthma Clinic, under the supervision of Dr. Joan Reibman, providing 4,000 visits per year
- pulmonary procedures such as bronchoscopy, transbronchial needle biopsies, chest tubes, auto?uorescence bronchoscopy, and ultrathin bronchoscopy are performed
- an interventional bronchoscopy program that includes electrocautery, cryotherapy, stents, argon plasma coagulation, and brachytherapy
Tisch Hospital
At Tisch Hospital, patients with pulmonary diseases are admitted by referring pulmonologists who also serve as teaching staff. Clinical services provided by the division at Tisch include:
- a Medical Intensive Care Unit directed by Dr. Mark Sloane and a Critical Care section led by Dr. David Schwartz
- a Pulmonary Function Laboratory
- invasive pulmonary procedures performed by division faculty
- interventional procedures performed by Dr. Timothy Harkin and Dr. Doreen Addrizzo-Harris
VA Medical Center New York
At the VA Medical Center New York, the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine staffs a Chest Clinic and a Sleep Clinic and offers pulmonary consult services under the directorship of Dr. John Hay.
The division is also responsible for the direction of the hospital's Medical Intensive Care Unit under the directorship of Dr. Robert Smith.
Hospital for Joint Diseases
The Pulmonary and Critical Care Program at the Hospital for Joint Diseases is under the supervision of Dr. David Steiger. The program encompasses supervision of the Medical Intensive Care Unit, the provision of a pulmonary consult service to the hospital, and a close collaboration with the Rheumatology Division for the diagnosis and management of pulmonary manifestations of rheumatologic diseases.
