Jane E. Salmon, MD

Jane E. Salmon, MD, is Professor of Medicine and Professor of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University. She holds the Collette Kean Research Professor and serves as a Director of The Mary Kirkland Center for Lupus Research at Hospital for Special Surgery, and is also an Attending Physician at New York Presbyterian Hospital. 

Dr. Salmon earned a medical degree from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University in New York, completed an internship and residency in medicine at The New York Hospital, and a fellowship in rheumatic diseases at The New York Hospital and Hospital for Special Surgery. Dr Salmon is a Fellow of American College of Rheumatology, previous chair of the ACR Committee on Research and currently serves on the ACR Board of Directors. 

Among numerous honors and awards, Dr Salmon received the Dr Edmund L. Dubois, MD, Memorial Lectureship Award from the American College of Rheumatology, the Dr. Jacob Probstein Endowed Lecture in Obstetrics and Gynecology from Washington University in St. Louis, and has been selected to receive the Carol Nachman Prize in Rheumatology.  She has authored over 100 articles and more than 20 book chapters and monographs, and is the principal investigator of several basic and translational research studies.  Dr. Salmon is Co-Editor of Arthritis and Rheumatism and serves on NIH Advisory Boards for the North American Rheumatoid Arthritis Consortium and Lupus Multiplex Registry and Repository.

Dr. Salmon’s research focuses on elucidating mechanisms of tissue injury in lupus and other autoimmune diseases.  Her basic and clinical studies have expanded our understanding of pregnancy loss, cardiovascular disease and organ damage in SLE.
