Pain Management Program
Chronic pain can accompany a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions and treatment of the underlying condition may not provide satisfactory relief of pain. For many patients pain control is less than satisfactory and this area of care may not receive proper attention from the treating physician.
We offer comprehensive pain management services for both outpatients and inpatients who have painful musculoskeletal conditions.
The inpatient pain program is staffed by health care providers with a long-standing interest and expertise in pain management.
The inpatient pain program is multi-disciplinary and includes a rheumatologist, a psychiatrist, a psychologist, physical therapists, occupational therapists, a social worker, and when needed orthopedists, physiatrists, neurologists, anesthesiologists or interventional radiologists. Eligibility for the program is determined by a thorough outpatient evaluation by several of the pain team members.
Patients who complete the inpatient program receive continued care at the Rheumatology Faculty Practice or at the Comprehensive Pain Management Center of the NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases.
Outpatients are seen individually and patients will be referred to any of the above mentioned disciplines as deemed appropriate.
