Neurogenetics FellowshipNeurogenetics

Edwin H. Kolodny, MD, Director

Duration: 1-2 years, every other year. This fellowship is appropriate for the adult and pediatric neurologist. It provides training in the diagnosis and` management of children and adults with inherited diseases of the nervous system, such as congenital malformations, the lysosomal storage diseases, disorders of mitochondrial metabolism, amino acid and organic acid diseases, neuromuscular disorders, the spinocerebellar ataxias, and other degenerative diseases. The fellow attends weekly clinics, makes consultation rounds, participates in didactic conferences and seminars and assists in the teaching of neurogenetics to residents. Training in the biochemical and molecular aspects of neurogenetics is provided through the Neurogenetics Service and Research Laboratories. There is ample opportunity during the fellowship for clinical and bench research depending upon the specific interests of the fellow.

Neurological Rehabilitation

Joseph Herbert, MD, Director

Duration: 1-2 years. This fellowship provides training in management and rehabilitation of a broad spectrum of neurological disorders, with particular emphasis on multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury and stroke. Patient care is provided in outpatient specialty clinics and on a 20-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit. The fellow will also participate in ongoing clinical research projects and in resident teachings. The opportunity exists for an extension into a second year during which basic science and clinical neurophysiology rotations are available. The fellowship provides broad exposure to rehabilitation technology, neuroradiology and behavioral neurology.

Neuromuscular Disorders

David Younger, MD, Director

Duration: 1 year. This fellowship is designed for an individual who ideally has finished a year of training in electromyography and wishes to develop further clinical, electrophysiologic and neuropathologic expertise in primary myopathy, myasthenia gravis, peripheral neuropathy and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in a supervised setting.

Alzheimer's FellowshipAlzheimer’s Disease/Dementia

Thomas Wisniewski, MD, Director

Duration: 1-3 years. Post-doctoral position to study the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease and prior-related diseases. Expertise in some or all of the following is requested: biochemical purification, molecular biology, immunohistochemistry, transgenic mice, in vivo stereotactic injections into rodent brains and conformational studies of proteins. Position available immediately.
