Therapeutic Nursing

Nurse Manager: Roseanne DeRiso, MA, BSN, RN, OCN

  • Purpose of Therapeutic Nursing is to provide comprehensive diagnostic, therapeutic and supportive care in an outpatient setting to a wide variety of patients, including but not limited to, the department of Oncology.
  • Philosophy of care involves the patient and his/her care partner, where one is available, in the development of the treatment and education plan will lead to higher quality, lower cost care, greater patient satisfaction and increased compliance by the patient with his/her health care regime.
  • Patient Population: Inpatients (very limited)
    • Adult Oncology patients starting therapy while awaiting bed space on 16E
    • Adult inpatients requiring cytotoxic or biologic therapy currently admitted to an area of the hospital not prepared to deliver this therapy
  • Patient Population: Outpatients
    • Adult patients (greater than or equal to 100 lbs or 45.4 kilos) including the elderly receiving diagnostic or therapeutic procedures and treatments requiring less than 12 hour length of stay
    • Adult patients requiring transfusion of blood or blood products
  • Outpatient services include, but are not limited to:
    • Blood product transfusions
    • Hematopoietic growth factor injections for oncology and non end stage renal
    • failure patient populations
    • liver biopsy
    • renal biopsy recovery
    • cerebral angiogram recovery
    • diagnostic spinal tap and recovery
    • endocrine diagnostic tests
    • Laser eye procedures
    • Vaccine therapy
    • Biologic therapy
    • Chemotherapy
    • Research Protocol
