- 1 North is a 13 bed dedicated unit for medically complex rehabilitation patients at the Rusk Institute.
- This program has highly trained clinicians with clinical skills and competencies focusing on the rehabilitation care needs of medically complex patients.
- Primary patient population consists of adults and geriatrics that require physical rehabilitation, with the following conditions but not limited to:
- Polyneuropathy and Myopathy
- Transplants/Hepatic Encephalopathy
- Brain Tumors
- Guillain-Barre Syndrome
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Transverse Myelopathy
- Pain Syndrome
- Non Surgical Spinal cases
- Pre Prosthetic and Prosthetic Amputation training
- 1 North upholds the hallmark and long standing objective of the Rusk Institute which is to maximize patient outcome through interdisciplinary team approach.
- Twenty four-hour Nursing care is based on rehabilitative and restorative principles.
- Nursing focus is on providing ongoing patient and family education, skin and wound care management, pain management, bowel and bladder management, medication management, while managing complex medical issues.
- Nurses are FIM (Functional Independence Measurement) certified.
- Trained Nursing Attendants providing basic scope of care that supports patient's activities of daily living, hygiene, and nutrition as well as tasks that support professional nursing assessments.
- 24/7 communication among team members to resolve questions about patient’s most dependent episode.
- Evidence-based practice patient care.
- Quality and Performance Improvement initiatives.
- Supportive 6-8 weeks of classroom and clinical orientation.
- Mentor is available to guide and support new staff.
