Clinical Experience

The clinical experience acquired durring the NYU Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship Training Program will include training in diagnosis and management of the following disorders:

  1. growth disorders, e.g. short and tall stature (those with and without dysmorphic or disproportionate features)
  2. abnormalities of pituitary function, including management of postoperative complications affecting fluid and electrolyte balance, e.g diabetes insipidus, SIADH;
  3. thyroid and parathyroid disorders
  4. disorders of pubertal development and of sexual differentiation
  5. adrenal disorders
  6. disorders of calcium, phosphorus and of vitamin D metabolism including Rickets
  7. autoimmune polyglandular diseases; 8) endocrine neoplasia
  8. late endocrine effects of cancer therapy
  9. the use of growth hormone therapy in children, adolescents and in growth hormone deficiency post-adolescence
  10. ovarian hyperandrogenic states including recognition of insulin resistance syndromes
  11. disorders of nutrition, particularly as they impact on growth and development
  12. disorders of carbohydrate metabolism including diabetes mellitus.

The clinical experience as outlined above is gained from attendance at the Endocrine and Diabetic clinics, as well as responsibility for the care of children with endocrine disorders in the inpatient service both at Bellevue Hospital and Tisch Hospital. The interaction with residents and faculty from other disciplines e.g. pediatric neurosurgery, pediatric surgery, urology, genetics, child psychiatry, obstetrics & gynecology, and radiology, will expand the scope of the endocrine fellow's training.
