Bellevue Hospital Center Pediatric Emergency Service

The Pediatric Emergency Service (PES) has been serving the children of New York City for over 100 years. We moved to a state-of-the art facility in 1996 and we are dedicated to the care of acutely ill and injured children. Each year approximately 25,000 children and young adults are evaluated in the PES which is staffed around the clock by board certified physicians and nurses who specialize in the emergency care of children. All attending physicians are on the faculty of the New York University School of Medicine in the departments of both Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine. The PES manages patients with a wide range of medical, surgical, and psychiatric problems including asthma, appendicitis, child abuse, orthopedic injuries, major trauma, poisonings, and suicide. Bellevue Hospital is a Level-1 Trauma center with a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and cares for many victims with serious and critical injuries. In addition, Bellevue Hospital is a regional Spinal Cord Injury Center as well as a Limb Re-implantation Center and receives many referrals for these problems. Considered the "flagship hospital" of the New York City Health & Hospitals Corporation, is a primary teaching hospital for the New York University School of Medicine.

Tisch Hospital Pediatric Emergency Medicine Program

The Tisch Hospital Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) Program provides the highest level state of the art care to all pediatric patients presenting for treatment. The program continues to expand and thrive and currently provides pediatric emergency medicine attending coverage for a significant portion of each day. Ill and injured children presenting for care receive treatment in an area that continues to become increasingly child friendly and family focused. The PEM attending physicians providing coverage to Tisch Hospital are fellowship trained and board certified in both pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine and provide the highest level of care available to ill and injured children. Attending physicians in surgical and non-surgical pediatric specialties and subspecialties are on call and available on a 24 hour a day basis to the Emergency Department. Children requiring admission are admitted to the state of the art Tisch PICU or inpatient pediatric unit as a component of the continuum of care. Tisch Hospital is a premier hospital in the New York state region and is a teaching hospital for the New York University School of Medicine.
