Raphael David, M.D.
Director
He graduated from the University of Lausanne School of Medicine in Switzerland, and continued his medical training as an Intern at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, followed by a Pediatric Residency and Fellowship in Pediatric Endocrinology at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Dr. David is a Professor of Pediatrics at the NYU School of Medicine and Attending Pediatrician at Bellevue Hospital. He is a founding member of the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society and a member of the Society for Pediatric Research, the American Pediatric Society and the Endocrine Society. He serves on the NYU School of Medicine Faculty Council.

Dr. Bina Shah
Assistant Professor
A full-time Faculty member who provides day to day supervision of the fellowship program and takes a very active role teaching of fellows and house-staff. She is also a member of the Medical Student Education Committee.
Her research interests encompass a variety of studies. Currently, she is a Principal Investigator for the projects, "The prevalence of glucose intolerance in obese adolescents and its correlation to fasting glucose and insulin screening tests," "The relationship between Leptin level and blood pressure in obese adolescents during oral glucose tolerance test," "effect of an aromatase inhibitor for improvement of final adult height in pubertal boys".
Dr. Bonita Franklin
Clinical Associate Professor
A part-time Faculty member whose main efforts are in the field of Pediatric Diabetes Program at both NYU affiliated hospitals (Tisch and Bellevue Hospitals). She works in close collaboration with Dr. Arthur Fierman who is in charge of the Diabetes program at Bellevue Hospital.
She is an active participant in Diabetes education. We have a joint Pediatric and Adult Endocrinology Diabetes Journal Club, attended by faculty and fellows from both divisions. Dr. Franklin provides regular didactic teaching in endocrinology and diabetes to fellows and students.
Dr. Brenda Kohn
Associate Professor
A full-time Faculty member with a large private practice in which fellows take an active role in the inpatient setting. She also participates in our teaching and academic activities. She has had a long experience and interest in the management of patients with brain tumors and disorders of carbohydrate metabolism including Diabetes.
Dr. Kris Prasad, Ph.D.
Associate Research Professor
An experienced research steroid biochemist, having worked in the laboratory of Dr. Seymour Lieberman (an internationally renowned researcher in this field) at Columbia University for many years. Kris Prasad has collaborated in pioneering research in the field of brain steroids. He is in charge of the Pediatric Endocrine Laboratory, and in that role he is responsible for training and supervising our fellows in the performance of a variety of assays, including radioimmunoassay, HPLC, tissue culture, and other radioisotopic methods necessary for the implementation of research protocols.
Pursuing our interest in puberty research Dr. Prasad has assisted the fellows in their didactic understanding of steroidogenic pathways. He is also responsible for their research activities in the laboratory, helping to formulate their research projects and assisting in their execution. He is currently supervising a research project in the study of growth factors (IGF1) and their role in testicular function. Dr. Prasad has exceptional ability in solving problems in the laboratory, and he is a passionate teacher.
Dr. Arthur Fierman
Associate Professor
The director of the Pediatric Diabetes Program at Bellevue Hospital, having served in this capacity since 1984. He is responsible for supervising the outpatient and inpatient care of all children with diabetes. The Pediatric Diabetes Clinic meets weekly, and is multidisciplinary, including medical, nursing, nutrition, social work, and child life (child development) staff.
Pediatric endocrinology fellows provide direct patient care in the clinic under Drs. Fierman and Franklin's supervision. Current pediatric diabetes literature is distributed and discussed during each clinic session.
