Research experience is an essential requirement of the NYU Pediatric Endocrinology Fellowship Training Program. It includes training in laboratory techniques, knowledge of basic principles of competitive hormone assays, the performance of radioimmunoassay of hormones in blood and other fluids, and interpretation of laboratory results.
This experience will expand during the following years of training so as to include more advanced methodology e.g. HPLC, receptor assays, chromatographic techniques, etc.
The acquisition of these techniques will enable the trainee to participate in the design and execution of a research protocol which will be expected to result in a manuscript for publication. Clinical research projects will be an integral part of the trainee's experience, and will involve his/her participation in preparing protocols for grant applications and for IRB review.
This experience will provide the opportunity for acquiring knowledge of ethical principles, biostatistics, epidemiology, outcome analysis, and legal implications.
