Teaching Experience

Academic pediatricians are expected to be skilled, effective teachers. Fellows participate in numerous teaching experiences, and receive supervision and feedback from faculty during these experiences.

Medical Student Education

  • Fellows teach first-year medical students during a course introducing skills and concepts related to clinical practice, including interviewing, cultural issues, health care delivery and epidemiology

  • Fellows teach physical diagnosis to second-year students

  • Fellows teach clinical pediatrics to third and fourth-year students through didactics and bedside teaching

Resident Education

  • Fellows teach and provide clinical supervision to pediatric residents during their weekly continuity clinic and clinic conferences, addressing issues related to screening, child development, health maintenance, and diagnosis and management of the wide range of medical, developmental, behavioral, and psychosocial problems confronted by general pediatricians in practice

  • Fellows are responsible for the organization and direction of weekly case conferences and periodic department-wide lectures for the residents in the content area of general pediatrics
