Outreach

AIDS Service Center (ASC)
The Consortium supports a Women's Advocate at the ASC who conducts outreach to at-risk women of color in a variety of community settings. The advocate provides women with education on harm and risk reduction methods and connects them to services such as HIV testing and counseling, medical care, and case management through crisis intervention and medical escorts. Weekly supportive education, rap sessions, individual women’s advocacy services and referrals to Consortium sites at Greenhope SRO and Olivieri Women’s shelter.

Community Health Action of Staten Island
The Accessing Comprehensive Treatment Now (Act Now) Program conducts targeted outreach to women of color in the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and business communities on Staten Island. Act Now provides education workshops in the NYCHA projects and collaborates with other community organizations to mount community health fairs. The Program also conducts the Reach A Sister Teach A Sister (RASTAS) Women's Support Group that serves as a vital support network for HIV positive and newly diagnosed women.

Services for Pregnant Women

Bellevue Hospital
Our family-centered care program provides pregnant infected women with coordinated medical and social services through out their pregnant and post partum, insuring the referral of their newborns to the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Clinic and access to post partum GYN care for the Moms. The OB/GYN HIV Care Coordinator educates pregnant women about and offers them antiretroviral medications. In addition to helping the mother, these drugs can prevent the AIDS virus from being passed from the Mother on to the baby. A social worker provides psychosocial services and case management throughout the pregnancy and after delivery.

St. Vincent's Catholic Medical Centers - Staten Island Richard Bayley Center – GYN Services
A Nurse Practitioner provides GYN screenings for HIV infected women at the Richard Bayley Center. Those patients who require additional gynecological services are referred to the GYN clinic at St. Vincent's. The Nurse Practitioner coordinates the referral, the provision of care and follow-up as necessary.
