Clinical Education Program Overview
Categorical Program Overview
The Department of Pediatrics currently offers trainees a three-year path to achieve broad clinical competency in general pediatrics (our Categorical Track) and a two-year preliminary pathway to prepare trainees for advanced training primarily in Pediatric Neurology (our Preliminary Track). We are committed to clinical training in both pathways emphasizing a well balanced, hands-on experience in pediatrics that prepares residents equally well for careers as pediatric generalists or pediatric subspecialists.
The Department of Pediatrics categorical training program provides all residents with:
The categorical pediatric training program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. In 2004, the program received renewal of its priority designation by the New York State Council on Graduate Medical Education recognizing both its preparedness and effectiveness in training residents for careers in primary care medicine.
Pediatric Neurology Preliminary Track
The Department of Pediatrics two-year neurology preliminary training program provides residents with:
The neurology preliminary track is geared toward individuals desiring two years of pediatric training in preparation for advancement to programs in Pediatric Neurology in order to achieve dual Board certification. The curriculum is similar to our categorical track, but has a lesser focus on primary care skills training. Candidates applying to the preliminary track must also be participating in the Child Neurology Match.
