Pediatric Residency Program

About Us

Pediatric Rheumatology has evolved as a specialty unto itself since it emerged as a board certified subspecialty in 1992. It has evolved from the days when aspirin and corticosteroids were the mainstays of therapy, into the age where early, aggressive management using remittive drugs, immunosuppressive agents and active biologics help preserve joint function and organ integrity, enabling a child to viably participate with his or her peers.

Utilizing the adjunct services of orthopedists, radiologists, psychiatrists and our other multi-specialty pediatric experts, as well as the renowned services from our pediatric rehabilitation / physiatry department, the care of children with a rheumatologic condition is comprehensively managed.

Children present with a wide variety of conditions such as juvenile chronic arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, juvenile dermatomyositis, vasculopathies, Lyme disease, Raynaud's, fibromyalgia and a myriad of other conditions marked by musculoskeletal dysfunction and or autoimmune phenomenon.

There are three clinics per week at Bellevue's new Ambulatory Care Center, an in-patient consultation service at Bellevue and Tisch Hospital, as well as out-patient office hours in Manhattan and Westchester.
