Divisions of the Department of Surgery

Bariatric Surgery
The NYU Program for Surgical Weight Loss is a comprehensive program designed to meet the medical, surgical, and emotional needs of the severely obese patient, with outcomes among the best in the country.


Endocrine Surgery
The Division of Endocrine Surgery in the Department of Surgery at NYU was established in 2007 to provide comprehensive care to patients requiring surgery for thyroid cancer, other thyroid conditions, hyperparathyroidism, and other endocrine tumors in cooperation with colleagues in Endocrinology, Pathology, Nuclear Medicine, and Radiology. This team approach will assure that all patients will have available to them the most modern treatments for their disease.


General Surgery
This division specializes in the diagnosis of and surgical treatment for diseases of the esophagus, stomach, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, small and large intestine, colon and rectum. Many of the operations performed in this division employ minimal access (laparoscopic and flexible endoscopic) techniques.


Oral Surgery
Our oral surgeons provide the full spectrum of oral and maxillofacial surgery with an emphasis on orthognathic and maxillofacial reconstructive surgery, temporomandibular joint arthroscopy and open-joint surgery, oral and maxillofacial pathology, oral and maxillofacial trauma management, implant dentistry including grafting procedures, and dento-alveolar surgery such as removal of impacted teeth and other extractions.


Pediatric Surgery
The pediatrics division provides specialized surgical care for newborns, infants and children, including a special interest in minimal access surgery, prenatal counseling and consultation, tumors, and management of short bowel syndrome.


Plastic Surgery
The Institute of Reconstructive Surgery (IRPS) is a recognized leader in local, national and international plastic surgery, providing state-of-the-art clinical services for patients with both cosmetic and reconstructive needs.


Surgical Oncology
As the oldest clinical cancer service in continuous existence in the United States, the division excels at turning the latest in clinical, translational and epidemiologic research into cutting-edge multidisciplinary cancer treatment, then delivering it in a personalized and caring environment.


Transplant Surgery
The Mary Lea Johnson Richards Organ Transplant Center offers a full range of transplant services for patients with end-stage renal disease, addressing medical and surgical needs, as well as psychosocial and fincial ones, to ensure that the highest quality of care is delivered from the initial consultation through to recovery.


Trauma/Critical Care
The division is responsible for the surgical intensive care units among the various NYU affiliate hospitals, including Surgical Intensive Care Units, Cardiovascular Care Units, Transplant Intensive Care Units, Neurosurgical Intensive Care Units, Neonatal Intensive Care Units, and Emergency Wards.


Vascular Surgery
The division is dedicated to the understanding, prevention, and treatment of all aspects of vascular disease, offering expert care in vascular and endovascular surgery and stressing minimally invasive approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of patients.


Wound Healing and Regenerative Medicine
The division's mission is to heal chronic, non-healing wounds in a personal and caring environment that involves patients and their families at every level of care.
