The NYU affiliated hospitals are located on the east side of Manhattan in the
residential section of Murray Hill. This busy, cosmopolitan community is a combined
neighborhood of commercial and residential property with nearby parks, sport
and entertainment facilities. Murray Hill is conveniently located offering all
means of transportation, providing access to all areas of the city.
The urology program at NYU is five years. The first year is spent in general
surgery, which includes rotating on the urology service. Postgraduate years
2-5 are spent in urology. Four months of the PGY 3 year is dedicated to clinical
research, shockwave lithotripsy, and rotation in ultrasound and erectile dysfunction/infertility.
There are three hospital centers in the NYU system: Tisch Hospital, Bellevue
Hospital and the Manhattan VA Medical Center. Each of these hospitals is described
in detail below. The hospitals are located adjacent to each other on First
Avenue from 23rd to 34th Streets. These three hospitals provide residents with
an opportunity to care for a large number of patients with diverse urologic
conditions. Also, the geographic proximity of the hospitals offers a distinct
advantage in coordinating departmental activities and conferences.
There are 5 residents on the service at Tisch Hospital.
This includes a PGY5, PGY4, PGY3 and two PGY-2’s. At Bellevue Hospital
there are 4 residents: a PGY5, PGY4 and PGY3 and a surgical rotator. The
VA has 3 residents: a PGY5,
PGY4 and PGY2.
